Tesla Media Control Unit

If you are here, then you are probably wondering what type of MCU screen you have, and what the differences are. We at ReelDealEV.com discovered there are two digitizer types GEN 1 (Orange Ribbon Cables) which connects to a Green PCBA on the back of the display, and GEN 2 (Black Ribbon Cables) which connects to a blue PCBA on the back of the display. Typically early Model S use GEN 1, and later Model S’s and X’s use the GEN 2. Unfortunately, your VIN, Tegra Chip Info, and any other information will not help to identify which model you have, you must look at the ribbon cables themselves to identify. You can install either one in the car if you have the corresponding PCBA. The LCD screen stays the same, it is the Digitizer on top of the LCD screen that changes.
